Lyrics, Poems and notes

At some point in our trip down the road with Doug, we've all shared a special song, a poem or some little note.  I've created this page for us all to share those memories and the meanings behind them if you'd care to share them.

With song lyrics, I will change the music playing on the page to reflect the lyrics on the page from time to time

In Loving Memory

~Alter Bridge~

Thanks for all you've done

I've missed you for so long

I can't believe your gone

You still live in me

I feel you in the wind

You guide me constantly

I never knew what is was to be alone, no

'Cause you were always there for me

You were always waiting

And I'll come home and I miss your face so

Smiling down on me

I close my eyes to see

And I know, your a part of me

And its your song that sets me free

I sing it while I feel I can't hold on

I sing tonight cause it comforts me

I carry things that remind me of you

In loving memory of

the one that was so true

You were as kind as you could be

And even though you're gone

You still mean the world to me

I never knew what is was to be alone, no

You were always there for me

You were always waiting

But now I come home and its not the same, no

 Feels empty and alone

I can't believe your gone.

And I know, you're a part of me

And its your song that sets me free

I sing it while I feel I can't hold on

I sing tonight cause it comforts me

I'm glad he set you free from sorrow

I'll still love you more tomorrow

And you'll be with me here still

All you did you did with feeling

And you always found the meaning

And you always will

 And you always will

And you always will

And I know, you're apart of me

And its your song that sets me free

I sing it while I feel I can't hold on

I sing tonight cause it comforts me

Though we have all struggled to make sense of something senseless,

Strong bonds have been created

This song to me is the epitomy of how I feel now,

Doug will always be as far away as I let him be in my heart

He still lives in all of us and if we close our eyes and look with our heart, He'll always be right there.  We must all carry his song within us because how we remember and share memories is how we truly set ourselves free...

From a Friend in loving memory of Doug
“Friends"
by Michael W. Smith

Packing up the dreams God planted
In the fertile soil of you
Can't believe the hopes He's granted
Means a chapter in your life is through
But we'll keep you close as always
It won't even seem you've gone
'Cause our hearts in big and small ways
Will keep the love that keeps us strong

Chorus:
And friends are friends forever
If the Lord's the Lord of them
And a friend will not say never
'Cause the welcome will not end
Though it's hard to let you go
In the Father's hands we know
That a lifetime's not too long to live as friends.

With the faith and love God's given
Springing from the hope we know
We will pray the joy you'll live in
Is the strength that now you show

But we'll keep you close as always
It won't even seem you've gone
'Cause our hearts in big and small ways
Will keep the love that keeps us strong

Chorus:
And friends are friends forever
If the Lord's the Lord of them
And a friend will not say never
'Cause the welcome will not end
Though it's hard to let you go
In the Father's hands we know
That a lifetime's not too long to live as friends.
This was a song near and dear to the St. Rose Youth Group Choir. It was sung everytime a member moved on to bigger and better things. It was sung to Doug's last Sunday mass before leaving for the Navy. I never heard this song until I joined the St. Rose Youth Group Choir, but since the first time I heard it the song has lived in my heart. On the occassions that I've heard this song, I've always thought of Doug. I thought of the great memories, the many laughs, and the tears we've shared. This song will always remind me of my dear friend whether he is here on earth or up in Heaven!
